Why UGC wanted NET to be once a year?

Recent hotchpotch in UGC NET exam scenario is very confusing. There were many steps taken ahead & back in last three weeks.

UGC NET to be once a year

The National eligibility test NET exam is conducted twice a year. UGC wants to make it  once a year. Here are some valid points that UGC has put in support of its decision.

1. Limited human resources to conduct the exam twice a year for 80 subjects.

2. Preparation time for the postgraduate level exam is at least 5-6 months, holding exam once a year will extend the time of preparation for all the candidates.

3. University grant commission suffers management of its primary functions like regulation of schools & colleges due to the NET exam.

4. Most of the candidates have taken NET exam for granted & absenteeism increased up to 60%. Holding exam once a year will make them more careful & attentive.

5. Cost of conducting exam twice a year is not justified due to the reasons mentioned above.
